The Active And Eloquent Stills In Out In The Street

There are haunting, fascinating landscapes, such as an absolutely perfect capture of a railroad crossing in a small town by Jeremiah Chechik, it is a visual novel, embedded with detail and longing; or an image of an abandoned burger stand against timeless sweeping mountains and plain, captured on a road trip to New Mexico by Jeffrey Sklan.

The Venice Institute of Contemporary Art (ViCA) and Muzeumm present a unique fine art photography exhibition "Out In The Street", which focuses on a nearly 200 year tradition in art. We invite works created with a camera that address urban challenges and solutions in terms of social issues, justice, political protest, demonstrations, geographical, and/or philisophically creative ways of seeing what's out in the street or out of doors - from around the world. This exhibition will include world renowned street photography from historically significant fine art photographers such as Edmund Teske, and active artists such as Ave Pildas, and Osceola Refetoff .

Curated by Director of ViCA Juri Koll, the exhibition will take place from September 21 - October 21, 2018 at Muzeumm in Los Angeles, a pre-eminent exhibition space in the burgeoning West Adams District of Los Angeles, California.

TALIESIN Print Sale

On May 26th, a classmate of my daughter's was murdered while trying to aid two girls who were being verbally assaulted by a white supremacist. It took place on a Portland commuter train in broad daylight, but could have occurred anywhere in America these days. By all accounts, he was a very decent and kind boy. Taliesin's last words, as he lay dying on a sidewalk far from his family were, " Tell everyone on the train that I love them."

There are no words to speak, only actions to be taken. My resources and talents are limited. But together, my family and friends, we are going to raise money for a memorial stipend or scholarship in his name at Reed College.

The print is 16" by 20" on archival paper, using archival inks. Edition of 100 at this size. Each is signed. Please note, shipping is included.

SPRING IS IN THE AIR : CALIFORNIA PHOTOGRAPHER JEFFREY SKLAN'S BOTANICALS ARE BLOOMING

Miami Born, California Raised ~ Photographer Jeffrey Sklan creates poetic, modern images with flowers, Bonny Taylor curated his recent show and said this of his style and keen eye. "This exhibition presents images of flowers, illustrating the guileless beauty of our natural floral world. Sklan's work demonstrates the patience of an artist willing to wait for his subject to grow up—literally. There are over 1000 images in this project spanning a decade ,of which 49 will be exhibited. Through the artist's unique perspective, this photographic collection explores its flowers as subjects presented to the audience in large-scale contemporary pigment prints. "Flowers have been used and recreated in art for centuries by countless artists.Human beings are naturally drawn to their magic, mystery, and fragrance; we seem to never stop looking for them. Flowers have always represented many qualities significant to occasions that we celebrate, from birth to death. They may be humankind's first muse. Sklan’s work appears on a centuries’ long continuum that embodies visions of a quality we all long to capture—natural perfection." Jeffrey Sklan lives in Los Angeles, working on commissioned and personal projects. His art is in the homes of private collectors throughout the country.
